How to copy styles from one document to the next?

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I've created a great set of styles in one document and was under the impression that this style will be available in the formatting palette for all documents that I create.

Not so.

How do I make these new styles available for all new documents I create?

I cannot find an answer in Word help or a search in Mactopia.

thanks

In order for a new document to 'inherit' styles the styles must be stored in
the template on which the document is based. You can use the "Add to
template" check when you create the style to add them to the Normal.dotm
template or you can create your own document templates & base new documents
on them. Otherwise they are stored only in the document in which they're
created. Also, you can create 'Global' templates. More info is available
here but ignore anything pertaining to Macros for Office 2008:

You'll also find some excellent suggestions in the notes from Clive Huggan:

http://word.mvps.org/Mac/Bend/BendWordToYourWill.html

For existing styles, you can copy them from one document/template to another
in either of 2 ways. One is to open a document where the style has been
used, copy the styled content (be sure to include the ¶ if it's a paragraph
style) then paste into the other document. The style is transferred with the
text, but when you delete the text the style remains.

The other option is to use the Organizer, which enables moving, removing,
etc. of styles between docs/templates. See the Help topic for details:

Manage styles, AutoText entries, and toolbars with the Organizer
