How to create a simple line with text shown inside the line in themiddle ?

I am using Visio 2003 and need to draw a basic line (with an arrow at
the end) pointing the direction of the line but need to place the text
inside the middle of the line ? Something like this though the line is
continuous and not dotted. Also the 0.6 has to be clearly visible if
the document is printed out. Thanks

So, the 0.6 is just some text that you want to add? Draw your line, add the
arrowhead, and with the line still selected, type your text. To change the
properties of the text, go to menu bar > Format > Text. If you want to
re-position the text, click the little down arrow next to the Text icon, and
select Text Bow. The text box will show the little squares to resize the box
and thus move the text. If you draw a connector, the text box will have a
yellow diamond control handle to move the text.

Thanks alot for the help. Its working perfectly now. Can you tell me
if its possible to use Microsoft Word to create a Visio type diagram
without having Visio ?

I don't believe Word has any drawing capabilities of its own. You might
check over on the Word forum. The other MS drawing packages kind of pale in
comparison to Visio's capabilities, but it isn't cheap.

By default, Visio will set the text background colour to solid. You can
control this setting by selecting the shape and choosing Text... from the
Format menu and then selecting the Text Block tab. You can then choose a
more appropriate background colour or adjust the effect by changing the
transparency.

Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint have MSOshapes that are similar to the
basic shapes in Visio and they also support connected lines. In Word, look
at Shapes from the insert Tab.

There is no official way of converting MSOShapes to Visio drawings or vice
versa. I do have a set of tools that will let me convert MSO shapes into
Visio drawings, but they are not ready for prime time.
