How to create a TOC from a numbered document

Hi there,

I've created a document with multiple levels of numbering, but the
style of all the paragraphs does not follow the rule "Heading1",
"Heading2", etc. Instead, they are named by Word as
"Numbered, Left: 0.25", Hanging: 0.25",
"Numbered, Left: 0.75", Hanging: 0.25"
etc

How can I create a table of content out of this document?

Go back and actually set up some numbering styles, apply them. Word may help
you do this, however, you need to follow some rather strict and
non-intuitive instructions in setting up your heading styles. Follow them
even if they don't make sense to you.

Hi Dom:

You can't.

You need to apply the styles Heading 1 through Heading 2 etc... It's the
actual styles that cause the TOC to build, you need to use those exact
styles.

If you want the headings numbered, use Format>Styles and Formatting>Modify
on the Heading 1 style to apply numbering to the Heading 1 to 9 styles
series.

But to build the TOC, you must use the correct styles.
