How to create a truly Custom report

B

Bahar Wadia

Environment:
Microsoft Project Server 2003
Microsoft Project Pro 2003
MS SQL

(All projects stored in Project Server)

How can I create a custom report with data from Microsoft project and other
ODBC sources.

Ideally we would like to create a one-page project status report with
information that is critical our organization. The report would follow the
below listed format:

- Gantt View
- Critical Issues (Sorted by Tasks or Sub Tasks)
- Data from other ODBC sources
- Etc.

Furthermore, we would like to run a single command/click that would run a
report for each project in Project Server, in one shot.

Hi Bahar

Project 2003 does support the ability to create custom reports in ASP for
viewing within a browser which will allow the creation of Cross Project
reports and summarisation.

This is very useful and allows full access to any data with ODBC. We
recently created the PMO documents for a major HealthCare LSP, and also a
major Energy Company, with the same environment as yourself (only we also
required to use XLS, Access and Oracle data sources ) . However Beware the
back end data is not well documented, but with some good test data and a
clear understanding of what is required within the reports it is very
achieveable.

Many thanks

We were also looking at doing reporting - but more along the lines of
cross-project reporting. Our early investigation led us to believe that a
good amount of custom development would be involved. Good luck - I'd be
interested to hear how you accomplish this.....
