How to create an "un-selectable" background ?

Hello,

I am desperatley looking for a feature similar to the one in powerpoint
(SLIDE MASTER).
This feature would allow to create a background template (with text,
pictures or graphics...) that cannot be altered or selected while you draw on
top of it.

I created a few graphics, selected ALL PROTECTION, but you still can select
(=click) on the background graphic.

Any ideas ? Thanks in advance !

A background page.

John, I believe the OP was talking about a background page. In earlier
Visio, one could password "Protect" the document. No longer. In some
respects, Microsoft adopt an over-done Nanny approach - yet in others they
drop worthwhile Nanny-like features.

He refers to background initially in terms of Powerpoint and then as a
location. "but you still can select (=click) on the background graphic." My
reading is that this graphic is on the page, but is visually behind other
objects rather than on a background page. If you are working on a foreground
page, you can not move the objects on the background page.

Visio did have some password protection, but it was not as secure as it
should be. So rather than give customers a false hope, the feature was
removed.

Another option would be to lock the shapes from being selected, but this is
tediuos since it has to be done for each shape.
