How to Create link Project Server 2007 Implementation with an existing MOSS 2007 Server

A

Adnan

Hi,

I want to deploy Project Server 2007 in such a way that WSS sites can
be created on a separate server running MOSS 2007. Both Project Server
and MOSS are using their own Farm Services. The only common thing
between these two installations is that Both are part of the same
domain.

The benefit for this approach it to get MOSS 2007 enterprise features
especially Enterprise Search and Form Services, if required in the
future.

Thanks

As a project server guru, you should know that Project Server 2007 *is* a
Sharepoint application. Installing SharePoint on a Project Server box is a
requisite to running Project Server 2007. To share services across a farm,
the service must be installed on all machines in the farm. The SharePoint
services (WSS 3.0) required to run Project Server is a free download for
Windows Server, so you shouldn't have a licensing issue.

I've not tested it, but I see no reason why MOSS and WSS cannot co-exist in
the same farm.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for your email. You didn't understand my question. let me again
explain my scenario.

Server 1: MOSS 2007 running in Domain A

Server 2: Project Server 2007 with WSS 3.0 running in Domain A

Client does not want to install MOSS 2007 on Server 2, becuase of
licenses issue and they want to keep both implementation separate.
Can I configure Project Server 2007 in such a way that all project
sites will create on MOSS 2007 server, so Project Server 2007 users
can use MOSS 2007 search and other features, other wise, they can only
use Freetext search in order to search project realted documents from
the Project Server.

I do hope that now my question is clear.

I don't think you understood my reply. AFAIK, The only way to do this is to
join the Project Server machine to the MOSS farm. This will require you to
install Project Server on both front-end machines. You cannot keep them
"completely separate."

I found out today that all servers in the farm must run the same version of
sahrepoint ! So in you case you will need two MOSS licences.
