How to Create MS word TOC with existing entries

How can I create a TOC from a existing 30 page word doc? MS word help
said that option an exist of "mark entries yourself". How do I "mark
entries myself"? The other two options consist of ''create TOC from
outline levels and Create a table from custom styles.'' I feel that
"mark entries myself" I what I need to do. Any help would be much
appreciated!!
