How to cross-reference figures in Word document

W

Wayne Cai

Hi,
I am writing a paper, and I would like to create cross-
references in the text.

For example, in the main context, I have:
from Figure 2, you can see ...

Originally, I had Figures 1, 2 and 3. Later on, I
inserted a new figure between Figures 2 and 3, such that
the new figure sequence becomes:
Figure 1, 2, 3, 4 (old Figure 3).

Now I want the main context automatically changes to
from Figure 3, you can see ...

I tried to use Word Help, but still could not figure it
out. Please help! I appreciate it. Thanks a lot!

If you have used Insert | Caption to label your figures, then they are
autonumbered and you can insert a cross-reference by selecting Figure in the
Insert | Reference | Cross-reference dialog. This may not update
automatically but will update when you print or explicitly update fields.
