How to deactivate the recording function (audio/video) in OneNote

Due to legal issues, I need to deactivate the recording of audio and video
with my OneNote 2003 installation. Is there a way either through the
registry or command line to deactivate this from OneNote 2003.

Probably easier to uninstall the recording device on your computer, disable
the microphones if you're on a Tablet PC. Anyone can record anything now,
with a "music" device like a MuVo. You don't need OneNote to do that.

Genuinely curious:

if you don't actually record with OneNote, how does anyone but you know if
recording is activated or deactivated on your computer?

Thanks Chris for the reply, unfortunately I left out some critical
information. I would like to make sure OneNote can't record audio/video via
this tool only, but the functionality must still be on the laptop to allow
for other software to record. I can hide the toolbar and menu options, but
there are other places within OneNote that would still allow this function to
occur (e.g. SideNotes).

If the feature is there someone will utilize it. I need it to be disabled
only within OneNote.

 I really don't know. Perhaps some of the settings in the user account
could be disabled, but it is beyond my knowledge. If you were to lock down
a specific user account for OneNote, I really don't see what the "legal"
difference would be if other recording capabilities existed on the system
and were live.

Thanks Again. I really don't undestand my Legal department either, but we
love to use the tool and could live without the recordings. Thanks for
taking time out of your day to help out. I think we may be able to utilize
the Office 2003 Resource Kit to modify the installations.

Strange.

I must admit I'm at a loss to understand why your legal dept would make such
a request.

I wonder why they're targetting OneNote for this?

Sorry, I can't help either.

Hi Anson,

Yes.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\11.0\OneNote\options\a
udio]
"DisableRecording"=dword:00000001

To add to that: A mischievious user can now search the Internet and find
this post and probably reset that reg key back to allow recording.

If you want to keep this setting in place, you should set it via Group
Policy, etc instead of setting it once and assuming it can't be changed
again.
