How To Define Externally-Managed (Unknown duration) Tasks?

Hi all. I am responsible for helping plan a software development
project. This project has some internally-managed (ie.,
internally-controlled "duration") tasks that cannot begin until certain
other, externally-managed tasks are complete. We neither know nor care
how long these external, customer-managed tasks take, but we do want to
assign these external tasks a "deadline" (I already know how to do
that) and a "promised" or "expected" date. I can't figure out how to
set up these external tasks and properly relate them to our internal
tasks that can't begin until the external tasks finish. Can someone
help me? Please?

Thanks,

KipM

Hi,

I would create a task with 0d duration (a milestone) and set its date to the
expected date of delivery. Link your tasks to this milestone. If the agreed
date changes, edit the date for the milestone and your dependent tasks will
be adjusted accordingly.
