how to delete a meeting without sending a notifcation

when I insert a meeting and send it out my calender sets the meeting as a
recurring one even when I have not selected the option. I have tried
everything to find out why it does this but to no avail. the only other thing
I can think of is to delete the recurring meetings without sending a
notification to the attendees but there is no option to do this so I am left
looking rather stupid with sending cancellations and then resending meetings
all the time. PLEASE HELP
