How to deselect one cell when selecting multiple nonadjacent cells?

I want to select many nonadjacent cells. So I hold down
Ctrl key and do it one by one. Very often I will hit the
wrong cell. How can I deselect that cell without
cancelling the cells I have already selected?

Please help me! It drives me crazy!

to the cell's rightclick menu.
