How to design greeting card in Publisher for non 8.5 x 11 sheet?

I want to print card onto cardstock (8.5 x 11) that can then be trimeed to
sizes similar to purchased cards (folded to 4.8" x 7" or 5.6" x 8") rather
than foliding a full 8.5 x 11 sheet to 4.25" x 5.5". I can't figure out how
to set the sheet size and pick template to do this. I think it could be done
in MS Word, but the designs from Publisher would not be available. Thanks in
advance for your help.

The easiest setup would be 8.5 x 5.5. You can print two cards per sheet, the
cards would fold to 4.25 x 5.5. You can buy envelopes that accommodate this size
card in almost any big box store.

Setup your page as a booklet, portrait, width 4.25, height 5.5.

The card designs in Publisher can be copied, pasted and adjusted to fit the
card.

If your card is already the size you have quoted here, then you will have to
setup your printer for the custom size.

Mary,

I'm afraid this didn't work. I get two front and back pages, and no
interior pages when I print. This was the problem that I couldn't get around

You will have to turn the printout over. If your printer cannot print duplex on
its own then you will have to manually turn the cards over.

When you are ready to print, print current page, click no to the query, turn the
card over and repeat.

Mary,

Unfortunately I am still not getting the results I would like. Fooling
around with the printer settings has allowed me to get both the inside and
front/back pages to print, but I end up with 2 cards when normally I need
only one, and these are the 4.25 x 5.5 size.

I am still unable to get the more normal greeting card sizes (e.g. 5 x 7)
that I indicated that I want. When I set up this size in Publisher it
automatically sets the sheet size at 7 x 10 - instead of the 8.5 x 11 that it
really is. This may sound trivial at first, but it is not. While I can
print the front/back and inside pages on opposing sides of the same sheet,
they do not line up. The extra 1.5" margin is on different ends of the two
sides.

Can you help? Thanks.

Just a thought...

The actual paper size needs to be the same as
the project settings....maybe you could trim your
paper to 7x10 before inserting into the printer?

The next best thing is to create a 5 x 7 space on your 8.5 x 11 paper and create
within that space. When you are finished printing cut the excess away.

Create your card without using the booklet setup: Page setup, landscape.
Insert a page.
In the Arrange menu, set your margins to zero on all four sides. Create a
rectangle 10 x 7, position it in the upper left hand corner.

You will have to manually create grid margins on the card. (Position your cursor
on a guide, right click, click format ruler guides
Page one:
Vertical
..5
4.5
5
5.5
9.5
Horizontal
..5
6.5
On page one the right side will be the front of your card.

On page two, drag the 10 x 7 rectangle to the right hand corner,<<<<<This is
important.

Vertical guides
1.5
5.5
6
6.5
10.5
Horizontal
..5
6.5
On page two the right side will be where you normally would see a verse. You can
span designs on the whole page. Just remember to delete the rectangles before
you print.
