How to disable certain menu items

Suresh

1) I would like to create a document that by default
will disable print, save as, save.

2) Also I am curious if there is a way to open a document
with a password and reset that password to another one
after the first open. In essence I want to create a
document and password protect it. Then I will send it to
someone whom I will provide the password to open the
file. Once they open the document with the password they
can view it all they want but once they close the document
they can't open it again.

Thanks
Suresh

Hi Suresh,

What you are asking for can't be done. Word simply doesn't have the features
to do it, and any attempt you make to write that kind of security can be
evaded in about 15 seconds by somebody who is sufficiently knowledgeable and
determined.

For instance, the only way you can have a document automatically update its
password is to have VBA code within the document which runs when the
document is opened. There are at least 3 ways of getting round this.

1. The user's macro security setting is on High, and so the macro is not run
because it is not from a trusted source.

2. The user opens a *copy* of the file, and leaves the original untouched.

3. The user opens the file using the free Word Viewer instead of Word
itself.

In fact, in an uncontrolled environment, its just about impossible to
provide a "read once" capability where the user cannot read the document a
second time, no matter what format you use for the document.

Thanks Jonathan,
I wish there is an utility which will enforce these
features or Microsoft coming up with such features and
making them available as needed basis.
Thanks for your response. I appreciate it.
