How to disable deferred quote's

Lex

Hi

If i type a single quote in Word nothing happens. But when
i type a character e.g. "e" then the é is created.
Also if i type a dubble quote nothing happens. But when i
type the spacebar after that, then the " is created.
I do not want this behavour, i would like to see all
characters that i type immediatly.

Where and how can i change this?

Thanks in advance, i need this badly..

It sounds as if you have enabled an international keyboard layout. Go to
Control Panel | Regional Options | Input Locales and choose "English (United
States)" (or whatever setting is appropriate).

I would check your autocorrect options - and disable tools > autocorrect >
auto format as you type - uncheck smart quotes (and probably most of the
rest of that stuff)

Note CTRL+',e is a standard Word shortcut for é

Hi Suzanne,

I just have checked this but i am already using the
English US setting as Input Locales. I removed the other
entry (Dutch) but that is not helping also.
I noticed this behavour also outside Word in other
applications so this should be a windows setting. Any
other idea's are very welcome, thanks for your reply and
help already!

Check to see whether you have any Accessibility options such as StickyKeys
enabled (Control Panel | Accessibility Options).

Hi Lex,

I'm not familiar with Win2000, but the input locale and the keyboard layout
are two different settings.
The setting for the keyboard layout is pretty well hidden in all versions of
Windows that I know, sometimes as a "Property" of the input locale,
sometimes stowed away in a separate dialog.

You know you've found it if you see a lot of different options for "Dvorak"
keyboard layouts, US, and US (International) layout. What you describe
sounds like the "US (International)" layout, and you want the regular US
layout.

Greetings,
Klaus
