How to Disable HTML Rendering

I'd like to open a text file (.txt) in Word and use the search and replace
tools to manipulate it. Unfortunately, the text file contains source code
for a web page, and when I open it Word tries to render the HTML.

How can I turn off the HTML rendering and see the text in the text file?

Which version of Word are you using? I opened a .txt file containing html
in Word 2003 and saw the html clearly, I just set the 'Files of Type' box to
'All files' when opening it. I know that if the file has a .htm extension
Word will open it as a web page but if it's a text .txt file I wouldn't have
thought you'd have a problem.

Andrea,

My file is a text file with a .txt extension. I am using Word 2000. I wonder
if this is one of those "features" that Microsoft discovered people hated,
so they quietly dropped it in the later version.

In Word 2000 you can see the html code for a web document by clicking
on the View menu and choosing HTML source. Unfortunately Word puts a
load of XML coding in its web documents so it normally ends up more
messy than simple HTML but you can download the Word 2000 HTML Filter
to remove this after editing if you wish, you can get it at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ee-3fbd-482c-83b0-96fb79b74ded&displaylang=en
but I don't think it will solve your file opening problem.
