How to disable spell check in Word 2007?

Hi there,

We are starting Exams next week and we are unable to disable the spell
check in Microsoft Word 2007.

In Word 2002 we could just rename the Proof folder on the C Drive to
quickly break the spell check ability for the exams but in 2007 there seems
to be no way to disable it.

Even uninstalling the Proofing Tools does not seem to work despite there
being an error to say that the option is not install but goes and checks it
anyway.

Any help on this would be great as I only have a few days to resolve this.

Hi Steven,
I found that I can turn off the auto checking this way: Office button/Word
Options/Proofing, then in the 'When correcting spelling and grammar in Wrok'
section, uncheck the "Check spelling as you type" and, if you want grammar
left alone too, also uncheck the "Check grammar as you type" and "Mark
grammar errors as you type" boxes. Alternatively, it looks like you could
also go to the option just below that section called "Exceptions", where you
can make an exception to hide the spelling and grammar errors just in that
one document. I have not tried that one yet myself, but I did notice that
last time I was in the proofing box.

You might try using the Microsoft Office Language Settings and set another
proofing language as the primary editing language. Note you don't want to
have proofing tools installed for the language you select. If the proofing
tools are not available then spell check will not work. If one attempts to
check spelling then they will encounter a message to install the correct
proofing tools.
