How to disable the auto selecting (shading) when starting to write

Good day,

As soon as I start writing (on a page already populated), ON appears to
select objects (this appears as grey shading), I’m not sure what this
functionality is termed. I would like to disable this auto selection, how do
I do this?

Are you referring to the note containers in OneNote?

They're not indicating a selection as such - just how OneNote has "grouped"
the content on screen.

You can reduce the contrast or switch them off altogether
Tools > Options > Display

Use the dropdown menu to adjust the darkness of the containers.

Uncheck the "Show note containers on page" box to switch them off entirely.

Those are probably the Note Containers. To turn them off, go to Tools |
Options | Display | "Show Note Containers on Pages".
