How to Disable the Totals and Grandtotals ?

Hello,

I use a Pivot Table for displaying data from a sql database.
But the totals and grandtotals make no sense with this data , because most
of the data are strings , and it simply makes no sense to calculate something.

Is it possible to disable(not visible) the Totals / Grantotals ?
Or if not , is it possible to customize the totals , f.e. they should all
display a certain string etc. ?
