How to display £ sterling character on website (using Frontpage)

I'm using FrontPage to publish my website and the special character £ (pound
sterling) does not show on the site - it is replaced by lozenge. The
character shows OK on my local files. I've tried inserting the special
character and changing fonts but no luck.

Insert the pound sign as a character or numeric entity.
See http://www.rxs-enterprises.org/fp/default.asp?fl=1101651334 for
details.

Do not use Reformat HTML - this will change the entity back to an ASCII
value, which will not display correctly.

The problem may be caused by your server changing the character encoding
of the pages when they are served. FireFox with the webmasters addin
can be used to read the HTTP headers from the server to see if this is
the case (or give a link to the page here.) The easiest solution is to
change the encoding of your pages to match the server.
