How to document configuration

Seems to me that it would be useful to have a set of scripts that would
extract information from Project Server as to the configuration of
resources, groups, categories and views. Anybody know of anything like
that?

Hi J,

This is my favorite Project Server 2003 tool

Project Server 2003 View Effective Rights Tool

44A5-B586-3C04596E3F1F&displaylang=en

It takes a bit of time to install and configure, but it's well worth it!

Good Luck!

That is pretty cool and it will be useful.

What I am hoping for, however, is just something that will report out
all the settings--especially for views.

Hi J,

Wouldn't that be a cool tool?
Alas, I have not seen it as of yet :-(

This may be a personal challenge. I've taught vbscript 2433, which is
a great class, but scripting against an application like this with many
server & application api's... seems like a pretty advanced subject.
Hopefully, somebody in the project developer area will be able to help.

I approached this requirement with different tools:

1. View Effective Rights (as mentioned by Rolly)

2. View Backup and Restore Utility (PS 2003 Res kit
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...22-5fed-45e8-9f37-301cde2e55a8&DisplayLang=en

3. Use Configuration Manage
http://www.faisalmasood.com/blog/msproject/2005/11/ms-project-epm-tools-from-russia-with.html
Configuration Manager allows you to backup & restore Server configuration,
Views, Users ang groups and Security templates in your Project server.

4. Create standard project & resouce level views with all the fields &
outline codes. Then use 'Export Grid to Excel' in PWA or save data as .mpp
file within MS Project Professional
5. Use the same 'Export Grid to Excel' option in other PWA screens to create
a master excel sheet with all configuration
