How to easily delete the horizontal line created by --- and <enter

E

Eartherian

Hello Friends!

As you know, we can create a horizontal line by typing three hyphens (---)
and pressing enter key. I created many such lines in my document, but for
some reason, after sometime I had to delete them and as I have made
modifications after creating the lines, 'undo' was of no use.

Then the problem started. I tried using the delete key just before the line
AND backspace key just after it. It deletes some of the lines but not all.
Some stubborn lines are moving up and down instead of getting deleted.

I know its small little funny and stupid problem. But I am unable to find a
good solution for it. Wasted lot of time over it.

Can anyone help? I can send you the document if you want to see the problem.

Thanks in advance!

No need for a copy, Rahul :) What isn't normally clear to many who discover
that feature is that the "line" is actually a paragraph Border - applied as
a formatting attribute to the paragraph.

In order to remove one have your insertion point in the para directly above
(in some cases below) the border, then go to Format> Borders & Shading,
click the setting icon for None.

Alternatively you can use the Borders & Shading group in the Formatting
Palette (the button labeled Type) or the Borders button on the Formatting
toolbar. They all offer the None option.

Quite honestly, many who use Word professionally prefer to turn the feature
off altogether (Tools> AutoCorrect> AutoFormat as You Type). It's simple
enough & provides more control to apply the type of border you want where
you want it *when* you want it directly or - even better - by inclusion in a
paragraph Style.
