How to export adobe pdf back into word document that can be edited

I use Word 2003 and Acrobat professional 8. I saved my original word
documents as a pdf file then unfortunately deleted my word files.

When I export or save to Word from the pdf file, the document appears like
the original Word, but is surrounded by a box. I can't edit the document
within the box.

Logically, if a can be saved into b, then b should be able to be saved as a.

How.

Logic has nothing to do with it ... when you created the pdf, in
essence you created a graphics file, and Word treats it as such.

You may be able to select text within Acrobat, copy it, and paste it
into a new Word document. If that doesn't work, you can use OCR
software to read the graphic image as text.

It's easier to understand if you think of PDF as a "print" format - like a
piece of paper. If you then apply logic based on these assumptions, you will
see that, while you can print a Word document on a piece of paper, you
cannot "open" a piece of paper with Word.
