how to find autorecovery file (xls)??

Hi all - I use MS Excel for Mac 2004 - I mistakenly saved over an excel file
and am still hoping (desperately) to locate a backup. I have Excel set to
save an autorecovery file every ten minutes...how can I locate the
autorecovery file?? Is there any way?? Is there another option for
recovering a previous version of the file I saved over?

Thank you.

Unfortunately, you are stuck. Autorecovery only exists for when Excel
crashes, and even then only since the last proper save (so making it
crash will be no use anyway). As you did a proper save, the
autorecovery file was deleted. Excel has no way of knowing that you
didn't actually want to do a proper save!

Too late now, but there is a feature (for future use?) to create a
backup on save. This backup is the last saved version. So, for
version 1 there is no backup; for version 2 then version 1 is the
backup; for version 3 then version 2 is the backup, and so on. I'm not
on a Mac at the mo (at work), so I cannot tell you exactly where to
find the feature, though Help should, umm, help. On Windows, there's a
check box hidden in Save As.
