How to finish a task?

A resource has 3 tasks with 4 hours of remaining work each. The
resource did not worked in these tasks, so the work is zero.
The resource will not work in these tasks. What is the best way to
finish them?

1. Type 0 (zero) in remaining work and send the update to PM;
2. Type some work in the timesheet (let´s say 1 hour) and zero for
remaining work and send the update;
3. The PM delete the tasks;
4. Other (which?).

There are several ways to address the issue of unneeded tasks. My favorite
way of handling this is to cancel the tasks using the following steps:

1. Apply the Gantt Chart view
2. Click View - Table - Work
3. Set the Remaining Work to 0 hours for each task
4. Save and publish the latest schedule changes

This method will display the unneeded tasks as milestones. I can live with
that by adding a Note to each task to document that they were cancelled. If
you don't like this approach, an alternate method is simply to remove the
tasks using the following steps:

1. Select the tasks in question.
2. Click the Assign Resources button on the Standard toolbar.
3. Select the resources assigned to the tasks and click the Remove button.
4. Save and publish the project (very important step).
5. Delete the tasks.
6. Save and publish the project.

DO NOT skip step #4 above or you will have "orphaned" task assignments in
your Project Server database. Hope this helps.
