How to get a prompt before printing from the toolbar

When I click the Print icon on the tool bar, I would like Word to display the
print dialog box that appears when you go through the File menu and select
Print. I do not want Word to automatically start printing. How do I achieve
this?

if you're on 07, you need to change your "Quick Print" icon to the "Print"
icon on your quick access toolbar (you can do that by just right-clicking,
then remove; then right-click & add the 1 you want).

if you're on 97-03, as far as i know the default of that icon is just "quick
print". if u want the print options window to pop-up, just do CTRL + P to
bring up that pop up window.

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/AsgnCmdOrMacroToToolbar.htm for
general instructions on customizing toolbars. For this application, open
Tools | Customize and, on the Commands tab, select the File category. Scroll
down to where you see Print... and Print. The button on the toolbar by
default is the Print button, which runs the FilePrintDefault command (which
prints immediately using the default settings). What you want is Print...,
which runs the FilePrint command, which opens the Print dialog. Drag that
button to your toolbar. Now you can either remove the Print button (by
dragging it off the toolbar) or modify one or the other to look different,
using the Button Image Editor.

FWIW, Ctrl+P will open the Print dialog if you don't want to go to the
trouble of adding a button.
