How to get a refund on Office 2003?

Ric

Hello,

I recently bought Office 2003 as an upgrade from Office 2000. When I
installed it, I found that Outlook 2003 is not compatible with Symantec
Winfax 10.02. After lots of googling, I have found that there is no real
solution to this problem. As I need Winfax more than Office 2003, I have
uninstalled 2003 and gone back to 2000.

But when I took the 2003 disk back for a refund, the vendor refused to
refund me. I think this is very unfair. There is nothing on the disk to say
that it is incompatible with other software on my machine.

Can anybody tell me what Microsofts official refund policy is? Most
reputable companies offer a refund period.

Hi, Ric. You could have downloaded the free Trial Version of Office
2003 to determine whether it met your needs before you purchased the
full version. Symantec offers a fix for WinFax to make it compatible
with Outlook 2003... see

.
Hello, thanks for that link, but after lots of googling I have found that
buying the Symantec update does not necessarily guarantee a fix. I've
decided to give up with Office 2003 and go back to Office XP. I am hoping I
will be able to exchange the disks at the vendor. Never again will I update
any of my software! All you get is fancy new icons in exchange for LOADS of
hassle...

Sorry but you'll be whistling for that one! Vendors will *NOT* take back
opened software - and especially not when it's the customer's fault! As
Garfield said, you could have ordered the free 120-day trial to see if it
met your needs before shelling out several hundred pounds. The old adage is
never truer - act in haste, repent at leisure. A vendor will only exchange
software for identical software if it's been opened. Besides, Office XP is
no longer sold - it was discontinued when 2003 was released.

This is *YOUR* fault for not doing any homework - you have no one to blame
but yourself - you're stuck with it.

I wrote to Symantec and asked about getting the CD, and they said it was not
available on the internet and I have to buy it from my "local Symantec
dealer" LOL!!!

I have to conclude they are not really interested in supporting this product
anymore. Also I'm not going to pay them any more money - I'd rather just get
a refund for 2003 and forget the whole miserable business of upgrading.

Not really, clearly you get more than just fancy new icons. You can either
pay for the fix or not.

Never again will I update

Listen, if you are going to be sarcastic, so will I. My replies on here
appeared long before you came along. So how could I have read them?

Well you're wrong again LOL! I just got a phone call from the vendor and
they agreed to take it back.

Hi Ric,

Microsoft does not offer CD only copies of MS Office for
sale through retail stores. If you purchased a CD only set
then you may need to deal with the retailer.

For full boxed package Microsoft products there is a
30 day money back guarantee in the U.S.

For other countries you can check with your local Microsoft Office.
(phone book or online)
