How to get automatic completion of email recipients

I imported my mail messages and contacts from OE6.

If I create a new mail message. In OE, I begin typing the recipient’s
name. Let’s say I type Bill S. At this moment OE automatically
brings up the name Bill Smith.

In my new Outlook, this automatic search and fill-in isn’t working.
How do I turn it on?

Outlook does not behave as does Outlook Express. OE activel
references its Contacts when you begin typing and shows you contact
that start with the string you've typed. Outlook doesn't referenc
contacts as you type. What it does is remember over time thos
addresses to which you've sent mail and presents those to you as yo
type, if you've enabled the option Tools>Options>E-mail Options>Advance
E-mail Options>Suggest names while completing To, Cc, and Bcc field
