how to get autoshapes close to text?

i am trying to create a form and want an autoshape very close to my text e.g.
a line so they can write their name. everytime i go to move the line close to
the writing, the writing just disappears to the other side of the line. this
results in either having to have the line very far away for the text or if i
put it close the text is no longer where i want it to be.

Why not just use a Right Aligned tab... with a line leader? That would be
much easier than trying to draw and position a variety of lines throughout
your document.

If you need to experiment with Text Wrapping take a look at the section 10 of
the Tutorial in www.drawingwithword.com or Section 7, Exercise 3 to look at
manipulating Wrap Points

Double-click the line to open the Format AutoShape dialog. On the Layout
tab, click Advanced... In the Advanced Layout dialog, choose the Text
Wrapping tab. Assuming the wrapping is set to Square, you should be able to
set the "Distance from text" as needed.
