Jen,
Try checking your automatic backup files (*.wbk). Word by
default automatically backs up files your working in the
directory stipulated in...
Tools | Options | File Locations: AutoRecover files. Check
the directory indicated there. Highlight and click the
modify button to see the full path.
Make sure you set you backup time to something helpful to
you. Click the Save tab and make sure the Autorecover
option is selected with a time indicating how long your
system will autosave the files. Keep in mind that
depending upon the speed of your system that a short time
may sometimes require you to wait for saves.
