How to get FIND to work when it does not FIND words that exist?

For example, I type "the" in FIND and yet having 100's of occurances, it
comes back with no FINDs.

Click on "More" in the dialog and make sure you don't have any boxes checked
that would limit the search. Also look under the "Find what" box to make
sure that there is no "Format" set.
