How to get footer to be centered on a page?

I am inserting graphics into my headers and footers in Word. But the headers
and footers are left justified on the page, rather than centered. Clicking
the alignment button only centers the text and graphics within the
headers/footers. The actual placement of the header and footer on the page
is what i am looking to alter. Does anyone know how to do this?
