How to get FrontPage `02 to Prompt for Username/Password

C

Chull13

I'd figured that I'd try one more time before spending $$$ for another
Web Editor.
Especially as it looks like at least 2 other people here had/have the
same problem in the near recent past.

How do I get FrontPage to Prompt for Username/Password?

It is problem on my side - NOT the Host side. On my desktop it just
will not prompt and If I try to open it directly I get a dialog that
states that the site '...might be password protected..." Not the most
usless dialog box I have ever seen - but still useless! While on
another's computer it will prompt and allow log in and editing! (Only
difference between the two that I know of is 2002 vs 2003.)
I did all of what was sugested here already. (Unless there is some
hiden cache I didn't know about.)

Any hope?
Normally I would do an un/re-install - but have no idea where the disc
is after 7 years!!

Thanks!

I just built a page and used a free version of ASPLogin to do the security
pages have you thought of that? and another idea would be to download the
sharepoint desigber program frm MS and use the temolate their it will be
compatable with your FP02

Can you describe what you doing...how you are opening FP...because I have
never had FP prompt me for a un/pw on my local machine.

1st 9 times out of 10 I will be browsing my site in IE (Using 8 now
which is buggy for me, but for a few months I did not have this FP
problem with it) I clcik on 'Page' and then choose 'Edit with FP' FP
will then open and the Username/Password dialog will come up. If it
wss set to remember Password it will then open the Page and Web. If it
doesn't remember the Password (usually because I had changed it) I can
there enter the Username and password and it then opens the page and
web.
2nd The other 1 time I would open it by having FP open then click on
'File' 'Open Web' and the same dialog would open as above.
Now when I do the 1st from IE it will open only the page, without
the Shared Borders, not open the Web and there wil lbe no dialog box
and I have found that the page is opened to/copied to my laptop.
Now when I do the 2nd nothing will open and I wil lget the
message that it mighe be password protected but no way to enter a
username or passsword.

Thanks for asking and looking at this again!!

The second method is how you should be opening your website.
Open FP
File | Open Web(Site)
browse to the local file and open - or enter the http:// address if you want
to open the remote server web (if you have FPSE enabled and working).

Thanks for getting back.
Ok - when I use thge 2nd method how so I get it to prompt for Username/
Password rather it just telling me that the site might be Password
Protected with no place to input username/password?
Thanks!

So - still no fix for this?
I bought Web Expresions 2 and installed on a different computer and it
looks like it might be the same problem!!
3 Computers:
1. FP 2002 Will not Prompt for User Name/Password
2. FP 2003 Is working just fine - can log in and edit
3. Web Expresions 2 Will prompt for Username/Password but will not
accept.

fun!! (NOT)
