How to get lessen a webpage's weight and optimize loading?

Evie

If my site, http://www.kypets.com/ is too heavy for some people to load fast,
where can I go in and see exactly how the weight is distributed to images,
background, sound, text? Is there a folder which will show me how the 96KB
for one page all adds up? I am thinking I could revamp the site by dropping
the background and going with a no fill one, or checking photo sizes. I did
compress all images for the site before uploading, but maybe I can do more.
Any advice? Thanks :)

Is there a folder though where I can see exactly how the weight is
distributed? Partly for curiosity, partly for future design work.

I use FrontPage for web design, so I can't really tell ya how you would do
it with Pub (or if it's even possible)...I was just giving you some general
advice. Most people run away when they hear background music on a website
btw.

I can hear you going;;; ou ou ou me me me?

Hey, Joann..I've created a couple of experimental webs with Pub but never
went so far as publishing them online.....and I've opened a few online Pub
webs with FP...and I can see some stuff that way.

Welp, you know my p/o on this anyway :)

Yep - pretty much the same as mine. ;-)

Try removing the bg sound.

Completely agree with you about music, which is why I don't have it on my
websites. What I have is a 2-3 second sound playing for each page of a dog or
cat meowing since it is a humane society site. I didn't think that would add
a ton of weight to a file. Guess what I need is a response for MS Pub 2003 to
locate the folder I am looking for.

I guess you can't see the forest for the trees? ;-)
You simply add up the sizes of the files.
For an example see my article
http://www.publishermvps.com/Default.aspx?tabid=164
If you just want to do this for one page it may be easier to make a copy of
the web publication that just contains the one page. That way you don't need
to sort the images out by which ones are on what page.

You're probably right about the forest bit ;-)
