How to get rid of Drawing window.???

Jan Il

Hi all - PPT 2002 - W2K

I would like to know how to get rid of the drawing window that pops open
*every* time I want to create a text box, shape or anything like that. It's
so....eh.....ahmm...dang annoying. Yeah.....that's a good word. ;o)

I would be just ever so grateful for the secret to turn it off. At this
point I have only one nerve left...and it is realllllyyy on it big time.

I'm not sure what "drawing window" you're referring to. What does it look
like/contain? Do you have any special add-ins that might be causing it?

There's a really annoying drawing pane that pops up when you try to draw
anything in Word, but I'm not familiar with a drawing pane in PowerPoint. In
Word, you can turn it off by choosing Options from the Tools menu. I think
it's in the General tab, and the check box says something like Automatically
create drawing pane.

Hey Sonia! :)

No..it's not an add-in....I can't add any add-ins at all for PPT. I've
tried, but, add-in's just won't install for PPT for some reason.

The box looks like a text box, and pops up when I hit the AutoShape or Text
Box thingies on the toolbar, and then when I finish doing them, I close it
and it's gone. But, if I want to edit it, I can't, I have to start all over
again. It's been there since I installed my Office XP on the W2K drive,
about a month ago or so. It's not there on the WinME drive.

Thanks for your help.

Ohhhhh yeeeah! That one is a real pain in the wazoo. I fought that thing
for months when I first put in on my WinME, until I finally figured out how
to get rid of it. So I waxed that puppy straight off when I loaded OXP on
my W2k.

Thank you, though, for the info. Maybe some other poor soul is suffering
with that misery and will love you for saving them from mondo frustration.

Can you send me a screen shot of it? I think you know how to reach me, but it's
sonia at soniacoleman.com. I'd like to take a gander at it.

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. My ISP was one and off for a couple
of day, and I couldn't send out anything. While I was waiting for them to
get things back on line, I decided to try a repair and it seems to have
gotten rid of the ghost rider, at least for now.

What was odd, what that it only happened when I went to create a shape or
text box. Sort of like the one that one in Word David was talking about,
but...it encompassed the entire page, and anything that you created while it
was there was stuck inside of it, and you couldn't edit text or move or
change the shapes. It did not happen when inserting an image or creating
lines. If you had anything on the page before it cropped up, it swallowed
it too! I've seen some text boxes swallow other regular typed text on a
page, but, this thing ate everything no matter that it was. You could only
see the outline, and when I right clicked on it, there were no edit or
format properties listed for it like you'd see for a text box or shape.

It just started that about a week ago, and I'd been trying to troubleshoot
with no success. But, before I tried the repair, I thought I'd see if it
was some setting I was missing in the 2002. If it comes back, I'll just
send you a slide with the thing and let you have a look.

Happy Holidays!

Jan :)

It's nothing that I've ever heard of. I think it's pretty evident that
something got corrupted since the Detect and Repair fixed it. If it happens
again try to think of what you did on the sytem in the hours before the problem,
including software and hardware installs/modifications.

Will do. I'm watching it closely. I also noticed yesterday that the MS KB
articles were in Hungarian...???? This had never happened before either. I
didn't change anything, and all the language settings were still the same.
I tested a random assortment of the articles to see if it was just one or
two, but, they all showed up that way. None of the other Internet pages
were like that. I had done the 3 updates prior to the problem, so, I did
some detective work...and went back through a series of setups and all for
the Internet and accessing the MS websites. When I got to the page with the
Maps on it,
http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx
in the selection window it said Hungary...??? I thought.."W'll...no...not
yet, really...." When I reselected the United States and rechecked the KB
articles .....Shaazaamm! They were all back to English!!!

So...like you daid, it must have been something with the updates that messed
things up a bit. Thus, I'm keeping my eye out for anything else that might
go "squirnk" along the way. I may have to do a restore and redo the whole
wazoolie!

Hey Jan,

You got two choices.

1. Give up eating that exotic, Hungarian food and breathing on the keyboard,
or
2. Delete Internet explorer cookies and try to go back into Microsoft dot
com, after restarting Internet Explorer.

Had you read the entire post, you will know that Jan actually *fixed* the
issue.

It's ok, folks. Just flame grilling my own hamburger before anyone else gets
to me <vbg>!

and sent you a while back. Ya know....I've never known him to be at such a
loss of words. I haven't heard from him since..... ;o)))

Hey Jan,

I am due for bed! It is 15 minutes to tomorrow! No... too long spent typing.
It is now 9 minutes to midnight! Now 4 minutes!

In fact, the kangaroos that took off over the horizon when I saw them told
me that they would wake me tomorrow, but they are gone. They didn't even
bother to tell me what time they would be back to wake me up!

There is a cockatoo that lives in the gum tree at the back of the veranda.
When I walk outside past eleven PM, .... he looks at me and seems to say:
"Hey, man... time for bed...Fair crack of the whip. Or at least time to duck
some eggs"!

Hey... Steve! :)

MS KB
This is on your ME system, Jan?

Nope....this is on my W2K, 80 Gigglebits, with 512 MB memory (wish *I* could
just add another chip... <sigh>...)

Odd this ghost eater. Never saw anything like it before. It just engulfed
everything on the page but the images and line. Like a black hole with an
appetite for text and shapes...?? Strange it pushed away from the table at
the images and lines though, when all else seemed to be on it's diet.
Remember me saying some time ago with another odd situation that I thought I
had HAL on my machine?? Ahmm....this could be another reason..8-o
I know what advice Brian would give you re that computer. I'd get a second
opinion from Dr. Kevorkian though. ;-)

Yeah...but...I'd likely have to make an appt, with his publisher..)
Y'know down on the highway where we used to collect them flat furry dinner
things? If you toss the computer out there, it gets flat too. Solves lots of
problems. One thing: they're cruncy but they don't taste so good.

Furry? You got ones with fur? Sheesh!! The only ones I got were flat and
.......there was no fur! Ahmm...maybe I was too far down the highway....I'll
have to read that map you gave me again.

Ya'd think...I got a new hard drive, a bran-spakin new program, fully
loaded, even power seats and winders, relocated the dang machine clear
across country, and I *still* get these dang oddball problems.

Ehh.....how many times do ya think it would need to be run over 'fore it's
well done?

Sigh. Yeah, I know.

Clients, houseguests, wedding, Christmas.

Any two's worth your pity. I got all four! ;-)

I'll get a round tuit soonish. 'Kay?

'k....I truly can sympathy with you. I once did that very scenario a few
grandmothers ago.....it nearly killed me.....and everyone else around me.
It was my wedding. Since then, I have learned to space these events out
much further apart......some are still pending. ;o))

I think maybe you grabbed a snake. The possums look like that at one end but
they're furry at the other end.

Huh? I don't think it was a snake. Snakes taste like chicken. It did
*not* taste like chicken. Hmmm......ehh....maybe that's why it didn't have
eyes.
Since this isn't the MEchine, I'd go to greater lengths to save it.

'k......I'll make sure it only drops out the window.....??

Jan :)
