How to get rid of the open/save IE dialog when opening the InfoPath form

G. Tarazi

Hi

When you publish a form to Microsoft SharePoint Library, and save some XML files there, when you click on the file, the form will open instantly without the IE open/save dialog (the one that opens when you are downloading files).

But when I save an xml file to a normal web server, and click on the file, the IE download dialog will popup, and then I can open or save the from.

How can I go around this? How can I make it exactly like share point.

Thanks

Thank you, but what I am looking for it without modifying the end user's
desktop settings :)

After upgrading to Office 2003 Service Pack 1, you might have seen
changes
when downloading InfoPath XML files from a web server or SharePoint.
Those
of you not running Windows XP Service Pack 2 will see a dialog warning
you
about downloading this file. There is not any change to InfoPath's
security
model or the risk of downloading XML files.

If you want to eliminate this dialog, you can follow these steps.

*** How to avoid file download warnings after installing Microsoft
Office
2003 Service Pack 1
Applies to: Windows 2000 Service Pack 3, Windows XP, Windows XP Service
Pack
1, Windows 2003 Server
SUMMARY
After installing Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 1, you may begin
seeing
a warning message when downloading InfoPath XML files from a web server
or
Windows SharePoint Services website. This dialog warns you that some
files
may be harmful to your computer, and offers you choices, including
Opening
and Saving the file.

This article describes how to eliminate this dialog, which is not
present
using earlier versions of Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003.
MORE INFORMATION

*** Disable the dialog using Windows Explorer
This explains how to disable the dialog using options found in Windows
Explorer.
1. Open the "My Documents" folder.
2. Select Options on the Tools menu.
3. Select the File Types tab.
4. Scroll to find the XML Document file type. (Typing "XML" will
select it.)
5. Press Advanced to open a dialog of options
6. Check the checkbox for Confirm After Download
7. Press OK to close the Edit File Type dialog
8. Press Close to close the Folder Options dialog

You will no longer see the download warning when using Windows 2000,
Windows
XP, Windows XP Service Pack 1, and Windows 2003 Server. You will
continue to
see the warning if you have installed Windows XP Service Pack 2.

*** Disable the dialog through the Windows Registry
This explains how to disable the dialog if you are an administrator for
many
computers.
1. Open Run from the Start menu
2. Type "regedit.exe" and press Enter
3. Locate the following registry key:
"HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InfoPath.Document.1"
4. With that key selected, add a new value by choosing New. DWORD

Value from the Edit menu
5. Name that key "EditFlags"
6. Double-click on that key to edit it's value
7. Set it's value as Hexadecimal "00010000"
8. Press OK to close the Edit DWORD Value dialog.
9. Close the Registry Editor
This will hide the download warning dialog when using Windows 2000,
Windows
XP, Windows XP Service Pack 1, and Windows 2003 Server. You will
continue to
see the warning if you have installed Windows XP Service Pack 2.
