How to get Word 2007's count of characters INCLUDING SPACES?

The statistics provided at the end of a Word 2007 spell & grammar check
provide a character count WITHOUT spaces.

Certain online systems such as those that capture college essays and resumes
limit entries based on count including spaces.

Help!

Right-click the status bar at the bottom of the Word window and check the
Word Count item to make it display. When you want the character count, click
the word count to pop up a small dialog. It includes counts with and without
spaces.
