How To Have Word Change Reference to A Page Number In A Document

Hi all,

I am currently writing a multipage training manual in Word for our students.
In a number of places in the document, I write, "for more information about
this, see the information on page ----- . But as I add and subtract to this
manual, the page number that I want to refer to in the document keeps on
shifting and changing too.

So, I'm wondering if there is some way to have Word automatically adjust the
page number stated in the text so it will accurately reflect any changes
caused by my adding or deleting paragraphs, etc.

I hope I'm being clear with my question. If folks can tell me if Word can do
this and how to do it exactly, I'd appreciate it. Thanks very much.

One way (and there are others) is bookmark the beginning of the "more
information" section and then in your document text insert a cross
reference to the bookmark.

For example, on page 3 your are providing and introduction to cross
referencing in a Word document. On page 95 you have a comprehensive
section on Cross Referencing. Bookmark the "Cross Reference" heading
on page 95, lets call it CR.

On page 3 type For more information see (here insert a cross reference.
Reference Type is Bookmark, Insert Reference to is Page number.)

Note, if you use Word headings in your document you wouldn't need to
insert the bookmark. You could cross reference to the heading Cross
References with a reference to the page number.
