Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel hey, i have a long list of data - dates followed by numbers in the form 1,1,1990,2.34,"-" where the numbers and dates are varying, does anyone have any idea how i could just select the numbers (which may be between 0 and 100) from this and then sort them lowest to highest? - is it even possible

Oh, yes, it is possible.

But we need to see more of your data set to be able to tell you exactly how.
Post a simple of about ten entries so we can see what's what.

Generically, use the SEARCH function in a formula to search from the sixth
character right in the string until you find the next comma, then take
everything to the right of that as your number.

See SEARCH in the help.

Cheers
