Hello,

How do you put an hyperlink to a file in an entourage message?

I'm one of the few mac users in my company, and everybody, when they refer to a file on a files server, put the hyperlink of the file in outlook. But I cannot do that in Entourge. for instance :

File//M:\IT\Projects\Plan.doc

Any solution?

Thank you Diane for your message. My question was probably not clear enough. How do you put an hyperlink to a file in an entourage message which will be read through outlook and click by a windows user. So I would like to convert a mac link to a UNC path.

When I work on my mac, I would like to copy the path of a file (which is on windows network), and convert it in a UNC path that way a windows users can click on it. It looks to me that WinShortcutter does the opposite unfortuantely.

PathSnagger might help. Since I don't work in a cross platform environment
myself, I can't comment using real experience.

PathSnagger adds a Contextual Menu Item option to the Contextual Menu in the
Finder. Control-click a document, application, folder, mounted volume, zip
disk, anything, and easily copy the full path to that item directly to your
clipboard!

It offers Unix and HFS path options.

Thank again for your answer. PathSnagger unfortunately does only Unix and HFS path, I need a converter to translate a unix path in UNC path..

If you enter a true UNC path such as:

\\server\share\folder\folder

then most Windows E-mail clients will probably recognize it as such and
create the hyperlink. It's not a recognizable hyperlink in the Mac
world, so it won't be clickable on a Mac. I suggest you compose your
messages in both HTML and plain text to verify which works best in your
environment.

Paths aren't *always* translatable from one to another and not all path
styles are recognized on all platforms.

A Mac AFP path looks like:

afp://server.domain.com/share

An Mac SMB path looks like:

smb://server.domain.com/share

A Windows UNC path looks like:

\\server.domain.com\share

Use these as guides for creating the appropriate paths for your recipients.

Hope this helps!

Thank you Bill,

I will try to compose myself the link. It looks the most efficient way. A remaining question, how do you set "space caracter" do you have to put a symbole like "%"?

%20 is the space character.
