how to i fix jet engine in access database

I received error 3197 when I tried to start my access database. It stated
that the jet engine could not continue because another user and myself were
trying to access the same data. However, I am the only person trying to
start the database.(it is stored on a removeable hardrive). All of the other
files on the hardrive are operational. The other databases on the C drive
are also operational.
How can I gain access to this database?
