How to I get powerpoint to not recenter when zoomed in?

When I'm using powerpoint and zoomed in to do detailed work in draw mode,
anytime I do things such as delete an object, PowerPoint automatically goes
and recenters the slide to the middle making it extremely frustrating to do
the work as I have to either unzoom and reselect and then zoom in again, or I
have to keep the zoom level and use the scroll bars to get back to where I
was editing.

Is there anyway in Powerpoint (I am using PowerPoint 2007) to disable or
change the options so that when I am in zoomed mode, the slide does not
recenter and stays put and only moves when I tell it to.

Thanks

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is a bug and there is no fix
yet :-(

Lucy,

Thanks for the quick response :)

Also looks like there is a similar post called "Automatic View Recenter -
how to stop?" with the same issue (listed as a bug there as well).

Bummer that it is a Microsoft PowerPoint2007 bug and I can't work around it
:-(

Lucy,

Thanks for the tip. I went through all the steps of downloading and
installing the hotfix and it said that it installed OK. Afterwards I tried
it and unfortunately I'm still seeing the same problem. Here are the steps I
do.

1) Bring up Powerpoint 2007 (running SP1) and load a presentation with a
complex picture.
2) Zoom In to 400%
3) Select a small line away from the center of the page
4) Hit delete key

With this on my machine before and after installing the hotfix PowerPoint
immediately recenters itself so you have to manually move back to where you
are working :-(

I did notice during the hotfix install that it was installing for x86 and I
am running Vista 64 on a dual core machine, so I'm not sure if that is why
the hotfix didn't work or not. The download page did not say anything about
32 or 64 bit support.

I guess at least the hotfix shows that Microsoft is working on it. I did
notice that the info for the hotfix says if you don't get the expected
results that you open a trouble ticket. Do you think that this would be
worth my time and/or may help someone else.

Thanks,

Alan

Hi Alan

I'm sorry to hear the hotfix didn't work for you :-(. My understanding is
that hotfixes are provided 'as is' and aren't necessarily tested on all
system configurations etc so it's kind of pot luck whether it works for you
or not - and this is why they are not pushed out as say office updates are.
I would imagine that they will be working on testing it/updating it for all
systems and the new improved version will be included in the next SP but I
don't know as I don't work for MS and I'm a kind of technically challenged
individual :)

I would suggest using the 'send us feedback' section at the bottom of the
page I linked to - not saying anything will come of it but at least MS would
be made aware of your issue. As for opening a ticket, it's not something
I've ever done so I don't know how productive/expensive it may be.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Lucy
