How to I stop date from changing automatically in a word document.

My users use Win XP Pro SP1 with Word 2000 & Word XP, while creating a new
document / letter, they put the date of the day they typed their letter. Once
they open the document after few days they find the date has been changed
with system date.

They want to keep the dates in the letter when they typed it and don't want
to have it changed automatically.

If they are inserting date with the Insert Date and Time menu command then
uncheck the "update automatically "option in the date and time dialog box.
If the template has a { DATE } field, the change it to a { CREATEDATE }
field.

The existing letters can also be corrected by changing *their* date fields
to createdate fields and updating the fields to show the original date, but
as Greg suggests, the best way to deal with this for letters is to put a
createdate field in the document template at the appropriate spot - see
