How to identify user in database

Is there a way to identify users in the database. Is there a storage of
comuter names connected to the database at any given time. I guess I could
create a table that would be populated by user computers upon form open, I
have this already, and then dump into a table, and delete on exit.

Is there a more system oriented process?
