How To Import Groups from a Prior Version of Entourage

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

I am moving my email database from a prior version of Entourage to Entourage 2008. I can move the email addresses themselves to the new program without difficulty, but the groups do not either export from the old version or import into the new.

Is there any way to do this other than by hand? I have a good number of groups.

A few posts to similar questions seem to hit around my problem, but none directly addresses it.

Yes, but you will need to add each group member to the Address Book. Assign
a category with the group name to each contact. Next see this link for help:

Diane:

Thanks for your reply -- and sorry for my delay. I thought I checked the "email me" box but never got one.

This may work fine for some earlier versions, but I am trying to move from Entourage X. Am I out of luck? There are no archiving tools in that version.

Thanks for your reply -- and sorry for my delay. I thought I checked the

The email me box on the Mactopia forums, I believe since I don't use the web
interface, is to notify you for replies to your question. Note this is a
public forum and not for official MSFT support. The Mactopia forum is
actually an interface to the Entourage newsgroup.

If you use a newsreader rather than the Mactopia interface to this newsgroup
you can download old messages and search for answers. If you are not
familiar with a newsreader, Entourage's basic newsreader already has the
Microsoft News server included. All you do is subscribe to the newsgroups
you want. See this page for help:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/support_options/subnews.html>

These are the active newsgroups:

microsoft.public.mac.office
microsoft.public.mac.office.entourage
microsoft.public.mac.office.word
microsoft.public.mac.office.excel
microsoft.public.mac.office.powerpoint
This may work fine for some earlier versions, but I am trying to move from
Entourage X. Am I out of luck? There are no archiving tools in that version.

Entourage X is very limited for exporting compared to 04 and 08 and those
are still limited for groups. Paul Berkowitz's Export Import scripts used to
do this, but there are problems with the registration in Leopard preventing
full use. If you have access to Tiger, this would be the easiest way. It's
shareware so you could test it out first.

ScriptBuilders: Export-Import Entourage 1.3.10
<http://scriptbuilders.net/files/exportimportentourage1.3.10.html>

You might be able to do this with different Identities. Once you get out
your regular contacts, you would need to add each group to the Address Book
and export this as a tab delimited file. Rinse and repeat for each group.

Once you get your groups into Entourage 2008, be sure to add each group
member to your Address Book. Assign a category like this Group: Soccer,
Group: Family, Group: Work. Now you can see all your groups if you sort by
category and select by category only to view individual groups.
