How to import Start/Finish Data from Excel

I am appending existing projects that have been managed in Excel to a MS Project file. I would like to show the existing start and end dates that exist in Excel. These fields map fine in the Wizard and preview looks perfect. However, on import I get blank (actually blue) fields under Start, Finish and Duration.

If I import the data in to a NEW project, everything imports as expected.

It's interesting that I can copy/paste from Excel to this project with no problem except that Duration does not calculate.

FYI, the source Excel doc looks like
