How to insert a file shortcut as attachment in Outlook as icon?

I used to be able to insert a file attachment in Outlook 2000 as a shortcut
to the file in a LAN location. Now in Outlook 2003, I can only see how to
insert as a Hyperlink which shows a horrendously long pathname.

Any ideas how to only show an icon link to a file without attaching the file
itself?
