How To Insert a Portion of a Screenshot Into Word?

A

I am designing a manual in Word, and I want to insert a portion of a
screenshot into my document.

I have tried doing a PrintScreen and then inserted the image into
Paintbrush. Then I cut out all the portions that I do not want to
show. I tried inserted the image, but Word shrinks it down really
small and has borders of the image that takes up almost the entire
page. I can not write text underneath my image because of these
borders.

I'm sure there is a similiar way to do this. What do technical writers
use to display portions of a screenshot rather than the entire screen?

SnagIt! by TechSmith. Awesome program! There is a free demo version you can
try. I think you'll be as impressed as I am with this program. And another
great point is that it's so inexpensive - $40. It's worth a lot more than
that.

But even better is a screen capture program that is totally
free (Screen Hunter 4 free) from

This program allows you to capture the entire screen, the
active window or the area selected by you at capture time.
Can save as an automatically named, with number incrementing
file, to the clipboard.
