How to insert an entire complex element into the primary data source xml

Infopath control property Rules provide a way to copy field values from a
secondary data source into the primary data source. For my application, I
need to copy an entire complex element from a secondary data source and
insert it into the primary data source. Can someone tell me how to do this
either using control property Rules, a Script, or managed code?
