How to insert sound in Excel 2007?

In Excel 97/200/XP/2003 I could insert a wave sound object to annotate cells
or worksheets. I find this incredibly useful, but the wave sound object type
is no longer in the New Object list. The sound recorder is available to
create annotations, and I can insert EXISTING objects, but this is a pretty
lame process.

How can I register the Sound Recorder so that it will open within Excel as
it did in previous versions? Any other ideas about a third-pary sound
recorder that will work in Excel (Office) 2007?

TIA

Thank you for your reply, but Wave Sound is NOT an available object in Excel
2007 or any of the other Office 2007 applications.

Please refer to my earlier post.

Thanks again for your reply.

I have MULTIPLE machines running VISTA Business or Ultimate. All machines
are running Office 2007 Enterprise Edition. Office was NOT upgraded on these
machines, nor did Office 2003 ever run on them. None of the Office 2007
applications show Wave Sound as an object. Sound Recorder is installed and
running on all Vista Machines. Keep in mind that Sound Recorder in Vista
creates WMA files, not WAV files.

Are you running Windows XP of Vista as the host for Office 2007?

Do you know how to REGISTER an application so that it appears in the New
Object dialog box in Office 2007?

Again, thanks for your kind response.

Thanks for your kind assistance. I think we can close this thread.

This is an Excel 2007 on Vista issue. BTW, the Sound Recorder in Vista only
RECORDS sounds. It does NOT play them back, as the Sound Recorder in Windows
XP does.

Thanks, again.
